Actually, Buckbeak never technically died. This kind of falls in the whole wibbly wobbly timey wimey category of things. All of the events were happening simultaneously…Harry and Hermione just experienced them twice because of the nature of the Time Turner.
I actually disagree, I think. If they had used the time turner to go back in time and save Harry’s parents then his parents would never have died either - it would be the same thing. If we’re looking at time like the Doctor, that every event in time is happening simultaneously, technically you could back and affect that time. The Doctor does it all the time, he saves people - it depends on whether or not the event is fixed. The volcano going off in Pompeii was fixed, so he couldn’t save the people, but in other instances he saved the lives of many. But back to the original point, Harry’s parents death is probably most DEFINITELY fixed, and therefore had to happen the way it did or else everything might not have followed. For instance, Harry might have been killed or Voldemort never would have fallen from power, etc. Whereas Buckbeak’s life was not fixed and could therefore be changed.
…I didn’t think about this way too much or anything.
Edit; but to be clear, I agree that Buckbeak never actually died.
